Owen Mumford shortlisted for ‘Excellence in Sustainability’

May 2025

Owen Mumford has been shortlisted in the TVCC 2025 Business Awards for ‘Excellence in Sustainability’.

This nomination highlights the company’s dedication to sustainable innovation in healthcare, exemplified by its ambitious remanufacturing project. Created in collaboration with CPI through the Innovate UK Grand Challenge on Sustainable Medicines Manufacturing, the initiative is advancing a circular economy for auto-injectors and supporting the sector’s transition to net-zero. With 2.5 billion handheld injection devices used each year, the industry contributes around 750,000 tonnes of CO₂e emissions annually. As environmental and regulatory pressures intensify, healthcare organisations must act decisively to cut their carbon footprint. Owen

Mumford’s model offers a transformative solution—collecting, sterilising, and remanufacturing used auto-injectors to reduce device emissions by up to 95%.

For the first time, the UK government is match-funding an initiative of this kind, creating a unique opportunity for industry leaders to shape the future of sustainable drug delivery.

As part of the Innovate UK Grand Challenge, Owen Mumford and CPI are actively seeking additional partners across the pharmaceutical supply chain to drive this project forward. The initiative will launch in October 2025, running for 24–42 months.

This is your chance to be part of a transformative movement—helping to set new standards for sustainability in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
